Irvine Royal proudly organises an annual Ski Trip to Italy. Over the past five years, we’ve enjoyed unforgettable experiences in Pila, located in the beautiful Aosta Valley. In January 2026, we’re excited to be heading to the stunning resort of Passo Tonale, nestled in the Dolomites.

Open to all pupils, the trip offers the ideal environment for beginners to learn how to ski and for more experienced skiers to further develop their skills. Across five days on the slopes, pupils not only take part in professional ski lessons but also enjoy a range of evening activities designed to encourage socialising, cultural exchange, and the development of positive relationships.

What is a Ski Trip

A school ski trip is an exciting outdoor learning experience that combines adventure, education, and personal growth. Pupils have the opportunity to learn or improve their skiing while gaining confidence, independence, and resilience away from home.

During the trip, pupils travel abroad to a ski resort and typically spend five days attending ski school. Each day includes morning and afternoon sessions led by professionally qualified instructors, with groups organised by ability. As pupils progress, they may move between groups to match their developing skills.

After skiing, there’s time to relax and take part in a variety of evening activities—such as visiting local attractions, bowling, and enjoying a disco night.

The trip price includes all transport, accommodation, meals, equipment hire, and scheduled activities, ensuring a safe, enjoyable, and memorable experience for every participant.

Is it educational?

Yes! A ski trip is a unique learning opportunity and covers the four capacities of Scotland’s Curriculum for Excellence.

Successful Learners – a ski trip has a high success rate with all participants able to ski by the end of the trip.

Confident Individuals – pupils learn new skills while coping independently away from home.

Effective contributors – pupils work in a team throughout the week and take responsibility for everyone enjoying the experience.

Responsible citizens – visiting a ski resort enables understanding of how other people live and adapt to this type of environment.
