S1

Course Overview

Relationships – Young people learn about the impact relationships have on their physical and mental wellbeing and how to maintain positive relationships throughout their life.

Young Carers – Young people learn about the key definitions for caring, young carer statements, support that is in place for young carers and the Carers (Scotland) Act 2016

Charity

Internet Safety – S1 and S2 will focus on safer social media with a particular focus on safe choices and behaviours on social media, unsafe behaviours exhibited on social networking and strategies to maintain online reputation.

New perspectives – The aim of the new perspectives is to

  1. discussion with young people about the feelings associated with change and loss.
  2. reinforcement of young people’s understanding that all feelings are OK.
  3. further development of young people’s vocabulary so that they can express feelings about change.
  4. a deepening of the understanding that everyone experiences change and the emotions associated with change pass.
  5. reinforcement of the fact that young people can overcome challenges and there are people around them who can help.

Anti-bullying – S1/2 will focus on the definition of bullying, what behaviours can be classed as bullying, why someone becomes a bully, who to go to for help and what can be done.

Emphasis will be made on restorative meetings, 10 tips to keep safe and school anti bullying policy.

Road Safety -

Mental Health – S1 and S2 will focus on stress, good and bad, and how to cope with stress, feelings and emotions and how these can influence behaviour and reactions, mental wellbeing and coping strategies

Profiling for achievement - Will focus on review previous schools year and how young plan for achievement. Young people will focus on SMART targets.

Tree of Knowledge – Tree house resource time is ticking (module 1) Focus on – Time management, social media, wellbeing, decision making zest for life (module 2) Focus on – Character, enthusiasm, happiness 

 

S2

Course Overview

Road Safety

Charity – S2/3 will focus on the many causes that charities help and being able to access the information that charities provide.

Work experience – In S3 pupils will begin to explore work experience options and undertake work experience

Study techniques – This will focus on studying environments and studying techniques, opportunities to attempt different study techniques will be provided.

S4 - N3/N4/N5

Course Overview

Mental Health - S3/4 will focus on strategies for supporting yourself and friends in times of difficulty, symptoms of depression, social stigma and coping with stress

Profiling for achievement - Will focus on review previous schools year and how young plan for achievement. Young people will focus on SMART targets.

Sexual health

Study techniques - This will focus on studying environments and studying techniques, opportunities to attempt different study techniques will be provided. Time management will be a focus during S4/5/6.

Work Experience and Careers- In S4 pupils will explore work experience options and undertake work experience. Once work experience has been completed young people will achieve a National 4 work experience qualification.

Employability – In S4 onwards young people will focus on preparing for employment, building employability skills and responsibilities of employment.

Community House Advocacy Project (CHAP) – Young people are given the opportunity to engage in lessons with staff from CHAP. In these lessons our young people learn about Housing, Budgeting and Finances and the challenges this may present.
