Family Learning at Irvine Royal Academy

My name is Orlaigh McLay and I am the new Family Learning Worker for Irvine Royal Academy, as well as a number of the Irvine Royal cluster primary schools. Before working for North Ayrshire Council, I worked in support within the arts. This involved supporting people with a range of either mental health problems or additional support needs within workshop settings. I worked as both a support worker and an artist in residence between multiple charitable organisations in Edinburgh. I am a trained Jeweller & Silversmith (I graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 2016) and have a real passion for all things arts & crafts. I am currently in the process of renovating a house with my husband, and we have a 2 year old girl - who keeps us on our toes! We also have 2 Jack Russells who we love walking along Ayrshire beaches. As a Family Learning Worker, I aid family learning and engagement as a whole, whether that is conducting fun STEM activities and experiments with families, or focusing in on health and wellbeing in a 1 to 1 setting. I also support families with areas of the curriculum such as literacy and numeracy, and can aid in adult learning. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.

Thanks again, Orlaigh
