As a cluster, we work collaboratively to ensure the transition from primary to secondary is smooth and successful for all of our young people.  We are committed to academic success, maximising the potential of each young person and ensuring that we are getting it right for every child.

We work very closely with our feeder primary schools throughout the year, this serves to ensure the highlight level of support both during and the point of transition to Irvine Royal Academy.

Transition Policy

Within Irvine Royal, our DHT maintains the overview of this process and liaises directly with the cluster primaries throughout the year this ensures key information and dates are shared and that information is passed timeously to parents. Our Support for Learning PT and Guidance PTs will collect and disseminate information regarding learning and pastoral related issues, which is then used within Irvine Royal to support the planning of learning and teaching experiences for the young people when they join us.

Each young person is assigned a house which has a Guidance Principal Teacher and a DHT assigned to it – these adults work collaboratively to ensure that all young people are supported during their time with us and that they are nurtured to reach their full potential.

Alongside the DHT and PTGs, there are other key members of our Integrated Support Team: Support for Learning PT, Inclusive Learning Programme PT, Area Inclusion worker, Inclusion and Attainment Officer, School Counsellors, Careers Advisors and many more.  All of these adults are committed to getting it right for each and every young person within Irvine Royal and they work collaboratively to support and challenge young people throughout their time with us.

Key learning information is shared with all staff which is then used to support the planning of engaging, challenging and progressive lessons – this is shared initially when the young person arrive at Irvine Royal but is also updated regularly when the needs of our young people change.

Over the course of the year there are various plans in place to support the successful transition of our P7 pupils to Irvine Royal and we engage in the folllowing activities to ensure this:

  • Open evening for current P7 parents
  • 4 Challenge Days throughout the session
  • Information gathering - staff from Irvine Royal attend each primary and meet with the class teachers to gather key information about the young people so we they are fully supported when they arrive
  • HT & DHT visits to each P7 class
  • Induction Days
  • P7 Information Session
